Banger and Reliant Robin Rules
CONSTRUCTION RULES
Vehicles must be V12 only, no Mini's allowed, or Mini parts, such as axle or wheels & tyres.
Only approved banger body shells are permitted, such as those made by PRECISION PRODUCTS, KAMTEC, HOT RODS SOUTHWEST 62, and ARCADE MODELS. Please check with a committee member if unsure about a particular shell. For Team events, check the permitted body shell list on the Team challenge page of the website, or check with a committee member. Lexon shells are not permitted. The use of previously raced shells is permitted, provided that they are in reasonable condition, with front and rear ends intact (unless stated fresh shells only for particular meetings). The use of a heat gun is permitted on the front and rear of the shells, but there is to be no flaring of wheel arches, and the side of the shell must be level with the chassis. 3mm clearance on chassis, no excessive lowering of shells, cars must resemble the real thing. Wheel arches must be removed after cutting out, front wings can be heated under as per a real car but not bolted. Windows must be cut out fully as per real car, name boards are allowed on the front window like the real thing. No double skinning of fresh shells at all, this includes folding the
front and rears under.(no strengthening of front or rear bumpers either). Sills only can be folded to an angle of 45 degrees as a maximum. If a new rear or front has been put on a repaired shell only a maximum of 4 bolts can be used to fix it on. Small or large van shells in Van meetings permitted. Hearses may be used for all banger meetings other than vans, within reason. Roof fins must be fitted to the vehicle at all times,
and not possess any sharp edges. They must be plastic, and clearly show the drivers number. Driver’s number must be clearly visible on the vehicle.
Roof grades are updated at the end of every second month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec). All vehicles are to display their correct roof grade.
The use of aluminium A frames is not permitted.
Bumpers are not permitted.
Bumpers are permitted for under 16's only.
Rear extension are allowed but a maximum of 3mm , and no wider than the chassis and no L shaped to the rear, extensions must be flush to the top of the chassis.
Reliant Robins are NOT permitted suspension.
You may use glue sticks, tape, and cable ties, in the event of strengthening and repairs.
Joining plates (plastic only) may also be used in conjunction with nuts and bolts as per their full size counterparts (within reason).
These repair methods are allowed anywhere inside the body shell, not on the outside, with the exception of cable ties protruding from the inside.
No armouring permitted.
Bonnet corner plates and doorplates may be used, but only from an old shell of similar thickness.
These may be bolted or glued to the car, no cable ties.
Cable ties may be used as boot straps.
All bolts for repairs and cosmetic purposes must be 3mm only.
No mascots, bolt on engines, etc, with the exception of special events.
All windows must be cut out as per the original vehicle.
The external painting of the vehicle should be neatly finished.
No unsightly, rude or offensive slogans, gestures, etc.
Absolutely NO SWEAR WORDS.
Chassis must be as per the standard kit item with the following limitations - if left at the standard length, the chassis must be used with a shell that is made to fit its size properly.
If the standard chassis is changed for a longer version, it must not exceed the thickness, width or material type of the original.
Countersunk chassis are permitted.
No double decks.
No short wheel base chassis permitted, unless made by the kit company. Scrutineering will have a clearance plate, whereby your vehicle must run freely over the top, should it scrape in any way; your vehicle will fail scrutineering.
This is in the interest of protecting the race carpet from any protrusions.
All running gear to be MARDAVE 46,48,or 50 only, of 32dp gear gauge.
No white spur gears allowed.
No strengthening to rear pod allowed.
Additional standard top plates are optional, but recommended, and have a maximum of 8 mounting points.
They are not to exceed rear pod and are to be mounted behind steering arms.
Width should not exceed 120mm. The top plate should be tappered from the front of the battery towards front wishbones.
You may use 3 or 4 body mounts, no more, no less. A maximum of 2 in bonnet and 2 anywhere else. A maximum of 4
clips through shell.
These must be of plastic, not exceeding 10mm in width, and not protrude more than 10mm through the body shell.
Front posts must be mounted onto chassis, no extensions to front of chassis to enable posts to be
mounted.
Adjustable frames may also be used.
Vans and Estates can be mounted behind the motor mount but hearsers are still to be mounted in front of motor.
Mechanical and resistor type speed controllers are allowed, including those possessing a Dynamic brake resistor.
Must have reverse fitted and working at the start of the race.
No electronic speedos allowed.
Steering arms may be modified with heavier gauge wire than standard kit supply.
Wishbones are to be standard, no strengthing allowed.
Front springs must be fitted, no pipe to be fitted to kingpins.
No adjustable kingpins to be fitted. only standard or hardened and stainless allowed.
Any suitable servo saver, original or aftermarket is permitted.
Ball racers may be fitted to the rear axle only.
Pinions - minimum 12T, maximum 18T.
Aluminium rear pods are not permitted.
Only standard MARDAVE rear wheel spur gear combination to be used - 32 dp gears only.
Permitted motors = MARDAVE kit standard 540 or SH. G1 & G2. Graupner.
Non-standard 540's. Topaz. Tamiya kit motor. 27 turn HPI. Motor cleaning fluids and additives are permitted.
Tyre additives are prohibited. Foam tyres only to be used.
Minimum 12mm and maximum 26mm width of front tyres.
Rear tyres, minimum 12mm maximum 38mm.
Tyre diameter, front and rear to be minimum 44mm and maximum 57mm.
Only 4 cell, sub c Nicad batteries permitted.
No maximum limit for heats and finals but is to be below 4000mah for the DD.
All batteries to be covered in heat shrink plastic.
Connecters may be altered (i.e. from Tamiya to Corrally, Demons etc). Please note that cutting plugs from your battery pack
may infringe your warranty.
Batteries must remain in their original wrappings, or if rebuilt, they must have a reputable signature of the cell packs
power.
Heatsinks may be mounted to the motor.
Limo top plates made by Gruff tec only are allowed.
Minimum ride height for chassis/body shell is 3mm.
Final decision on all matters comes down to the scrutineers decision.
RACING RULES
IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, NO VEHICLE IS PERMITTED ON THE TRACK AT ANY TIME WITHOUT A BODYSHELL.
Heats to be 4 or 5 minutes in length, final to be 5 minutes or more, as defined by race control.
Races to start in roof grade order, picked grid position, or qualifying order, as defined by race control.
Racing to be clockwise around the oval, with the exception of the DD.
Driving in the opposite direction and doing head-ons along the full length of the back straight are permitted.
Head-ons are permitted on the bends 2 and 3 only.
Turning around on the straight is only permitted in order to continue racing if you yourself have been spun.
DRIVING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION ACROSS THE START/FINISH LINE IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN, AND WILL RESULT IN PENALTIES.
Team racing is only permitted in Team events.
Drivers are responsible for the collection and fitting of the correct transponder in their car.
Once a race is over, ALL cars must be removed from the track IMMEDIATELY. If your race has already started, you may add your car to the track, provided the car is placed on at turn One.
No marshalling of Bangers or Reliant Robins will take place, with the following exceptions - if a car is at risk of burning out (i.e. cells/batteries), radio equipment or batteries are lying on the track, or if a car goes over the outside wall.
Any car that has been marshalled may not re-enter, but may still enter the remaining races of the meeting.
Failure to comply may result in disqualification.
For the DD events only, batteries are limited to below 4000 and the last three running will be scrutineered on track (anyone found to have incorrect batteries will be disqualified), cars will line up with their boot to the infield.
There will be no changing of bodyshells for the DD.
No waiting, hiding, or "playing dead". Any car that leaves the oval must remain out.
No repeated hitting of "dead" cars.
If a car is still running but caught in a cluster of "dead" cars, or on its side for any length of time, it will be counted out once there are just a few left competing.
(This has been known as a hiding technique).
Last car running must be capable of moving unaided.
In all cases, RACE CONTROL HAS THE FINAL DECISION.
scrutineering will be at random at anytime during the race meeting.
